School Projects

Following on the success with farmers it was decided to encourage schools to plant and now over eighty schools have participated in the project, mostly with good results.

The scheme is as follows;

FOMAWA gives between 200-500 tree seedlings, both indigeneous and exotics. FOMAWA provides sufficient stock proof fencing, (essential to keep the goats out during the holidays).  This is 'on loan' and is to be returned to Fomawa once the trees are tall enough to be out of danger; or can be retained if the school wants to plant a new area.The school signs an Engagement letter with FOMAWA.  FOMAWA's Field Staff provide the supervision and the school provides the fence posts, labour to hole and plant.   Frequent follow-up visits are needed by Fomawa's staff during the first year.A typical school will plant 400 trees of which 60% should meet the specification for poles after ten years,  At the current price of sh2500/pole (say twenty pounds/pole) that will bring in sh600,000 sufficient to build a new class room, install guttering and water collection systems.See more photos   on schools projects See more Photos
